MIET AFRICA is working with the Mpumalanga Provincial Department of Education in South Africa to implement and test an expanded CSTL model <see here> that incorporates UNICEF’s Safe and Caring Child Friendly Schools model, and will subsequently be rolled out by the Department of Basic Education in all schools in the country. This two-year pilot intervention aims to increase the number of schools that meet national quality standards for primary and secondary education with a focus on Quintile 1 and 2 [i.e. the poorest] schools.
Specific activities include: (i) building the capacity of provincial and district level education officials to support schools to implement the expanded CSTL model, (ii) strengthening schools themselves to implement the model
The project, which commenced on 1 March 2016 for an initial 22-month period, is funded by UNICEF.
