FutureLife-Now! COVID-19 Emergency Response is a humanitarian relief project which supports and strengthens the Southern African Development Community’s (SADC’s) response to the COVID-19 pandemic. FutureLife-Now! is a SADC programme. Its overall goal is to reduce the number of new HIV infections and improve ART adherence among adolescents and young people (aged 15–24) in the SADC Region through strengthened education sector responses to HIV and comprehensive sexuality education (CSE) and improved linkages between schools and health providers.
To achieve this goal, contextually relevant approaches to school-based delivery of the health services, including sexual reproductive health and rights (SRHR) services, are being tested in secondary schools in Lesotho, Zambia, Malawi and Zimbabwe. MIET AFRICA is providing technical assistance and the programme is funded by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC).
MAIN OBJECTIVES OF THE COVID-19 EMERGENCY RESPONSE:
- Support young people to be COVID-19 leaders by strengthening their knowledge, skills and confidence to stay safe and to help protect their families, friends and communities against the disease.
- Promote FutureLife-Now! CSE and life skills-focused youth development goals: Develop youths’ agency, their leadership in fighting COVID-19, and help them to cope with other health, safety, emotional, economic and environmental challenges that the pandemic brings.
- Strengthen the ecosystem of support provided by adults for youths, enabling youths to fulfil their responsibilities as current and future leaders of communities and countries.
