In partnership with MIET AFRICA, the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Education (KZNDoE) developed its Schools as Inclusive Education Centres of Learning, Care and Support strategy, which included the establishment of 50 “full service schools”. As a result of this collaboration, the KZNDoE contracted MIET AFRICA to design support centres that would be needed at these schools, and then project manage phased construction and equipping of the centres. In Phases 1 and 2, 26 centres were completed and handed over to KZNDoE. In the final phase, MIET AFRICA managed the social responsibility component of the project, and focused on the importance of community involvement with the contractors, as well as ensuring that the prescribed procedures were followed when members of the community were employed.
