TERMS OF REFERENCE | Research Study into the Impact of COVID-19 on Adolescents and Young people in the SADC Region

The COVID-19 pandemic has disrupted society’s ways of working and living and created a new set of demands for governments and civil society organizations to ensure that key services remain available and accessible. MIET AFRICA seeks to engage a consultant to conduct a research study that investigates the impact of COVID-19 on adolescents and young people in the SADC and East Africa regions. A specific focus of this research is the effect of COVID-19 on the sexual reproductive health and rights of adolescents and young people and the disruption it has caused to their education and social lives. MIET AFRICA to Assist SADC Member States During COVID-19

MIET AFRICA, in partnership with Global Hope Mobilisation (GLOHOMO) and the Southern African Development Community (SADC), and with financial support from the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation, is implementing an intervention that will assist the SADC Member States in their preparedness, responses and prevention of the COVID-19 pandemic.

MIET AFRICA will assist SADC at the regional level in the development and dissemination of a COVID- 19 communication and information strategy, that provides Member States with guidelines and tools for accurate and accessible messaging on COVID-19.

GLOHOMO will work with the Ministries of Health in Malawi and Zambia, specifically providing support at six borders and in 40 high-risk communities. At these selected sites the intervention will:

  • Provide psychosocial support to front line workers responding to COVID-19
  • Establish isolation rooms for COVID-19 confirmed cases
  • Rehabilitate/repair water, sanitation and hygiene facilities at selected risk locations,
