There are six posters and three booklets in this series: a learner booklet, a teacher booklet and a booklet for parents and caregivers.The materials are available in English, French and Portuguese.

Materials have been developed as part of the project: Speak Out! Addressing sexual abuse and violence against children, which is being implemented jointly by the SADC Ministries of Education and MIET AFRICA through Care and Support for Teaching and Learning (CSTL) SADC.

Supporting children to learn is a resource pack which targets low literacy audiences and which aims to get caregivers more involved in their children’s schooling. Topics include: Parents have an important role in supporting children to learn; Build a strong relationship with your child; Create a learning environment at home; Get involved in your child’s school.

The parent book is available in English/ isiZulu and English/Xhosa. It is accompanied by a facilitator pack that includes posters and cut-outs for each of the topics. The cut-outs are gradually attached to the poster as the topic is ‘built’ through group discussions.

This project was a partnership between MIET AFRICA, the South African Sugar Association (SASA) and the KZN Department of Education’s nutrition and curriculum units to develop a nutrition resource pack for teachers and learners in Grade R-6.

This nutrition pack comprises a teacher guide to teaching nutrition as part of the Life Skills curriculum in the foundation and intermediate phases. It includes nutrition information for the teacher, lesson activity ideas and CAPS-compliant grade-specific activity sheets for learners. The guide is accompanied by three readers, one for each of Grades 4-6.These colourful and attractive readers, entitled “Looking after your Teeth”, “Food from around the World!” and “A Case of the Runs–A Detective Story About Food Safety”, also address curriculum-specific nutrition topics.
