MIET AFRICA requires a Country Manager to take responsibility for the effective implementation of the FutureLife-Now! programme in Lesotho. FutureLife-Now! is a regional school-based programme aimed at reducing new HIV infections and increasing ART adherence amongst young people in the SADC region.  This is a one year renewable contract position, and the successful applicant will be based at MIET AFRICA’s head office in Durban, South Africa. According to the Southern African Development Community (SADC) 2019 Synthesis Report on the State of Food and Nutrition Security and Vulnerability in Southern Africa, 41.2 million people in 13 countries are estimated to be food insecure in the 2019/20 year. The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic has exacerbated food insecurity in Zimbabwe. MIET AFRICA’s regional programme, FutureLife-Now! is providing emergency COVID-19 support to vulnerable learners and their families from selected schools in Lesotho, Malawi, Zambia and Zimbabwe. A  component of this support, is providing dignity packs. It is with great pleasure that MIET AFRICA’s Board of Trustees announces the appointment of Thandi Chaane as the new CEO of MIET AFRICA. Thandi’s involvement with MIET AFRICA spans more than two decades, serving as deputy Chairperson of the Board of Trustees.

Making the announcement on Monday, Chairperson of the Board, Prof John Volmink congratulated Thandi on this important leadership role. “Thandi Chaane stepped in last year to assist MIET AFRICA and agreed to take up the CEO position in an interim capacity. MIET AFRICA requires a In-Country Coordinator to take responsibility for the effective implementation of the FutureLife-Now! COVID 19 Emergency Response in Zambia. FutureLife-Now! is a regional school-based programme aimed at reducing new HIV infections and increasing ART adherence amongst young people in the SADC region. The programme will provide assistance to Zambia’s COVID 19 response through the provision of emergency COVID 19 equipment and the dissemination of factually accurate COVID 19 information.  The 10 FutureLife-Now! school communities will be targeted for this support.  This is a seven (7) month contract position, commencing 15 June 2020 and ending 31 December 2020. The COVID-19 crisis has resulted in massive closure of schools as governments across the world try and contain the spread of the virus. School closures widen education inequalities and affect vulnerable children and youth disproportionately. Children and youth are at greater risk of harm from dysfunctional care environments, and adoption of unhealthy behaviours.  MIET AFRICA requires a service provider to provide a solution that allows the FutureLife-Now! programme to engage beneficiaries via SMS over a six to seven month period.
