The goal of home-based health care is to treat illness or injury in the home environment, and to provide assistance to patients in their homes, including babies, children and the elderly. They may also be required to provide assistance to people facing emotional crises as a result of illness, accidents or other types of trauma. This handbook gives information to carers to enable them to provide care and support to people in their community.
This handbook is divided into the following sections:

This section answers some of the questions that many people have about HIV and AIDS, such as what it is, how you get infected, how you can avoid infection and how to live positively with the disease.

Differentiation means acknowledging that in teaching and learning, “one size does not fit all”. A teacher should take differences into account when planning, teaching and assessing. These differences could include ability, learning style, language, gender, culture and socio-economic level. This booklet is accompanied by a DVD and refers to various sections in Education for all: A guide to building schools as inclusive centres of learning, care and support. It aims to assist teachers in introducing inclusive teaching methods into their classrooms.

It has been developed through a partnership between the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Education (Special Needs Education Services Directorate) and MIET AFRICA.

The RSP is a generic resource which aims to guide Ministries of Education in SADC Member States through the process of mainstreaming care and support for teaching and learning into every policy, programme and process.
The RSP toolkit consists of 15 booklets, including 12 action step booklets, sets of action step cards and a country roadmap. The materials are available in English, French and Portuguese.

Learn to Earn is a career development course that helps learners to explore career options, study routes, starting a business, finding a job and succeeding at work.
There are 10 x 2-hour facilitated sessions, each with a two-hour self-study task
Learn to Earn employs a participatory and interactive approach to learning
Learners are provided with a workbook containing course content, tasks and activities
At the end of the course, learners receive certificates of participation and attendance.

Let’s Talk has been developed out of a pilot project conducted in KwaZulu-Natal schools. It focuses on a dialogue approach to managing and preventing sexual harassment and learner pregnancy in schools. The project aimed to support teachers with strategies for coping with the challenges of sexual harassment in schools so that they are able to fulfil their professional roles and responsibilities. The programme was implemented by the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Education (KZNDoE) Gender Desk in partnership with MIET AFRICA and underpinned by action research conducted by the University of KwaZulu-Natal’s School of Education.
In addition to the above booklet, the material also includes six posters targeting teachers, learners and caregivers.

This is a guide for isiZulu Foundation Phase teachers to help them understand the Reading and Phonics part of the Curriculum and Assessment Policy Statement for Grades R-3 (CAPS).
The easy-to-read booklet promotes reading as a fun activity, and it includes examples of exercises that teachers can use when teaching literacy to young learners. It also explains the important differences between teaching reading in isiZulu and teaching reading in English. Understanding these differences makes the teaching of reading easier.
The booklet is written in English, although it is aimed primarily at Foundation Phase teachers of isiZulu Home Language. (It was written in English because teachers themselves say they find it easier to read this kind of information in English.) But it can also be used by teachers of English Home Language or English First Additional Language.
